If you’ve used scrubby yarn before, you might be thinking it’s tough to crochet with—but no worries! Lily Sugar’n Cream Scrub Off is another great option. Just be sure to avoid scrubby yarns made from polyester—they can be too rough on the skin and not as enjoyable to crochet with.

If you prefer a softer scrubber (or want to make one for kids), any worsted-weight 100% cotton yarn will work beautifully. It’s still effective, just gentler for more sensitive skin.

Step 1- Crochet the back scrubber

Note: The first row might be a little hard to crochet with the recommended yarn, but it gets easier as you go. Chain 17 (loosely) to make a foundation chain (or a multiple of 2 plus 1).

Row 1: Insert the hook in 2^nd CH from hook and pull up a loop, insert the hook in the next CH, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops,* insert the hook in last CH, pull up a loop, insert the hook in the next CH, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops,* rep *to* across ending with SC in the last CH (already holding a ST), CH 1, turn. Row 2: Insert the hook in 1^st ST and pull up a loop, insert the hook in the next ST, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops,* insert the hook in last ST, pull up a loop, insert the hook in the next ST, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all 3 loops,* rep *to* across ending with SC in the last ST (already holding a ST), CH 1, turn. Row 3 – 70 (or to the desired length): Rep Row 2. At the end of the last row, do not turn; proceed to crochet the handles.

Step 2- Crochet the handles

1st handle:

1. With the yarn still on your hook, CH 50 loosely (or more if you prefer)
2. Make sure the chains are not twisted.
3. SL ST in the opposite corner to form a loop, CH1, turn, SC in the 1^st ST, SC in every CH across, SC in the last ST, fasten off.

2nd handle:

1. Slip knot, then SL ST in the 1st ST of the foundation chain, CH 50 loosely (or more if you prefer).
2. Make sure the chains are not twisted.
3. SL ST in the opposite corner to form a loop, CH1, turn, SC in the 1^st ST, SC in every CH across, SC in the last ST, fasten off.
