Best Yarn Choice for Your Crochet bra Cups
When it comes to making crochet bra cups, the yarn you choose makes a big difference—especially if you’re planning on turning them into a crochet bikini top.
In general, cotton yarn is your best friend. It’s soft, breathable, and gives your bra cups a nice, clean structure. But if you’re making a bikini and you know it’s going to get wet, I highly recommend going with mercerized cotton. It’s comfy, but unlike regular cotton, it doesn’t absorb as much water and holds its shape beautifully, even after a swim!
But for other tops like lightweight bralettes, summer crops, or summer dresses, cotton blends and bamboo yarns are also great options. They’re soft, breathable, and perfect for staying cool while looking cute.
I usually avoid wool and basic acrylic yarns for my summer crochet projects—they trap heat and don’t hold up well in warmer weather or water.
How to Find Your Crochet Bra Cup Size
This free crochet bra cup pattern is written for sizes XS to XL and has been thoroughly tested for a comfortable and flattering fit. Just choose the size that’s closest to your full bust measurement.
Pro Tip: You can easily adjust the bra cup to your exact bust size. Start with a foundation chain that reaches from the base of your breast to the center of your nipple. Then, simply crochet as many rows as needed to achieve the right coverage.
Note: The pattern is written for #4 worsted weight cotton yarn, and as always, check your gauge! Try on your work as you go—crochet bralettes and crochet bikini tops should feel comfy, but not too loose, since they will stretch a little over time.
Here are the standard full bust measurements for each size:
- XS: 28–30″
- S: 32–34″
- M: 36–38″

- I’ve included specific stitch counts and sizes, but feel free to adjust them as needed to get the perfect fit.
Crochet The Bra cups
CH 12 (14, 14, 16, 16) to make a foundation chain.
Row 1: (RS) SC in the 2nd CH from the hook, SC in each CH across until you have 1 CH remaining, 3 SC in the last CH (place a SM in the 2nd SC). Turn to work along the other side of the foundation chain, SC in each CH across, turn (do not CH). 23 (27, 27, 31, 31) ST total.
Row 2: (WS) SC in each ST until you reach the 3 SC at the top, 3 SC in the middle ST (the marked ST), SC in each ST across, turn (do not CH)25 (29, 29, 33, 33) ST total.
Row 3-13 (13, 15, 17, 19): Rep Row 2. Move the SM up to the 2nd ST of the 3 SC at the top of the bra cups, every row until you reach the number of rows needed for your size, or until you achieve the coverage that feels right for you.
Note:
- Each row increases by two stitches, so by the final row, you should have 47(51, 59, 63, 67) ST total.
- Try your bikini cup on before crocheting the border, and feel free to add or remove rows to adjust the fit, if needed.
