Free crochet Christmas gift patterns to make your holiday gifting easier this year. These are the five I’m actually gifting this Christmas — a cozy blanket, a mug cozy, a wine bottle holder, a towel and washcloth set, and a placemat with a matching napkin holder. All worked in the same cozy granny spike stitch, so once you’ve made one, the rest fly by. Pretty, practical and handmade with love.

I think people expect a handmade gift from me now. Every year I make something for just about everyone around me — small, practical, cute little things for neighbors, teachers, and coworkers, and something more elaborate for family. I’ve been doing it so long that they’ve come to look forward to it. What did she make this year? So this year, I thought I’ll share with you exactly what I’m gifting.
Mug cozies — I made several of these. They’re handy, quick, and take just a small amount of yarn. I’ve already got the mugs picked out, and I’ll add a Starbucks gift card, maybe some coffee beans and a bottle of syrup. We’ll see. These are for everyone.
Towels and matching washcloths — these turned out so adorable. My girlfriends are going to love them. Add a candle, a fancy bar of soap, a little tag, and I’m all set.
The wine bottle cozy — we’re not really drinkers, but we get invited to Christmas parties, and most of the time I show up with a bottle of wine and something sweet from the bakery. I’ve been dressing up my bottles with a handmade cozy for years now. It’s become my thing.
The placemats and napkin holders — these ones I’m keeping. And if I have time, I might crochet a matching table runner too.
The blanket — this one was a request. My niece got married recently and I made her the Sterling blanket for her wedding. Then she asked for something for Christmas… so, here we are.

About the Patterns
The Evergreen Collection is made up of five patterns, all worked in the same granny spike stitch. It’s an easy one-row repeat that’s simple to memorize — and that’s part of why I love it. Once you’ve made the first piece, the rest fly by.

What I like most about this stitch is how different it can look depending on your colors. Narrow stripes, wide color blocks, two colors or three — the same stitch gives you a completely different piece every time.
The patterns range from easy to intermediate, and all use worsted weight yarn — cotton for the kitchen and bath pieces, acrylic for the blanket and wine cozy.
I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn! and I Love This Cotton! in Forest, Spa, Linen and parchment. I love these shades of green, and I especially love that the same colors are available in both the cotton and the acrylic — so the whole collection looks like a set.

What’s Included in the Free Crochet Patterns
Five free patterns, all worked in the same granny spike stitch:
- The Washcloth — 8 ½” x 8 ½” square. Soft enough for the bath, sturdy enough for the sink. A true scrap-yarn project and the perfect place to start.
- The Towel — 14 ½ in. long × 11 ½ in. wide. A cream center with striped side borders, or stripes all over — the pattern includes both. Doubles as a placemat if you’d like it for the table.
- The Mug Cozy — fits a standard mug. Quick, cute, and barely uses any yarn. Add coffee and a gift card and it’s a teacher gift, done.
- The Wine Cozy — fits a standard 750 ml bottle. The lace-up back cinches it snug and lets the label peek through, so a store-bought bottle looks like a real gift.
