Free Crochet Wine Bottle Cozy Pattern — Easy Hostess Gift

Last-minute invitation and nothing to bring? This free crochet wine bottle cozy pattern is the answer. It takes less than an hour and barely any yarn, and the laced-up back is my favorite part — it’s so pretty, and it cinches the cozy snug so it fits just right. Make it with narrow stripes or wide ones; both versions are included.

The Evergreen Wine Bottle Cozy — Free Crochet Pattern

Whether it’s a casual dinner at a friend’s house, a summer barbecue, or a Christmas party, I usually show up with a bottle of wine and something sweet from the bakery. That’s been my thing for years — and somewhere along the way, I started dressing up the bottle instead of just handing it over.

I’ve designed quite a few of these, and this free crochet wine bottle cozy pattern is the one for this Christmas. We have a few parties coming up, and my husband will be gifting a few bottles to his coworkers as well.

It’s easy, it works up fast with leftover yarn, and the lace-up back is my favorite part — it looks so pretty and fits beautifully around almost any bottle. Narrow stripes or wide, it looks lovely either way.

Why You’ll Love This Crochet Wine Bottle Cozy Pattern

The Evergreen wine bottle holder is quick to make, pretty to look at, and a real joy to give.

  • It’s genuinely quick. Less than an hour from start to finish, which makes it the pattern to reach for when the invitation is tonight.
  • A true scrap-yarn project. You’ll only need small amounts of each color, so dig through the stash.
  • The lace-up back does three jobs at once. It cinches the cozy snug, lets the label peek through so the bottle still gets to be the star, and makes the whole thing look deliberately wrapped rather than simply covered.
  • Two stripe versions included. Narrow stripes for something festive and playful, or wide bands for a soft winter ombré.
  • Beautiful texture. The granny spike stitch gives the cozy a soft, raised surface with real depth
  • It’s an easy one-row repeat. A joy to crochet.

Crochet the Border

Work (SC, CH 2, SC) in the next row, then *SK the next row, work (SC, CH 2, SC) in the following row; rep down the side until you reach the base. Work 1 SC in each of the 8 STS across the base.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Finishing

With Yarn A, CH 150 for the tie string. Fasten off and cut the yarn. Thread the string through the opening in a crisscross pattern, starting at the bottom and working through the CH-2 spaces along the opening, skipping one CH-2 space between each insertion.

Your wine cozy is finished!

 Narrow-Striped Version

Work exactly as for the wide-striped cozy. The only change is the color sequence — change color every 2 rows, following the photo above.
