The Greenway Scarf free crochet pattern makes the loveliest scarf. Super soft, beautifully drapey, and full of gorgeous squishy 3D texture — it wraps around you like a hug. And the Waffle V Stitch? A one-row repeat. Settle in and enjoy it.

Greenway Scarf – Free Crochet Pattern for Advanced Beginners
The Greenway Scarf free crochet pattern is one of those projects that looks way more complicated than it actually is! This scarf is a joy to crochet — it’s super soft, it drapes beautifully, and the texture? Gorgeous.
I made mine in a self-striping yarn in different shades of green, and I can’t recommend it enough. The color shifts do all the work for you, and the way the greens fade into each other looks so pretty in the Waffle V Stitch.
And that stitch is really what makes this scarf so special. It’s 3D, squishy, and deeply textured, giving the whole thing a cozy, elaborate look — people will absolutely ask you how you did it. Here’s the best part though: it’s a one-row repeat. That’s it. You can put on a show, get into a rhythm, and just relax. If you know how to crochet a front post double crochet (fpdc), you’re already good to go.
I’ve used this stitch in so many projects — my Chestnut Blanket and my much-loved Coco Knot Bag — and I love the result every single time.

Materials Needed for This Free Crochet Scarf Pattern
For this scarf you’ll need any #4 worsted weight yarn — I used Caron Cloud Cakes in the color Fir, and one skein was enough for the scarf.
- Yarn: Caron Cloud Cakes, #4 worsted weight
- Color shown: Fir
- Yardage: 720 yards (1 skein)
- Hook: 5 mm
- Finished size: 8½” wide x 92″ long
A quick note on yarn choice: the yarn I used is a soft worsted weight yarn that runs on the thinner side, and I’d really encourage you to do the same. A stiff worsted yarn will give you a scarf that feels heavy instead of draping softly around your neck — especially with a textured stitch like the Waffle V Stitch.
If you can’t find Caron Cloud Cakes, these self-striping yarns are all great options:
- Lion Brand Ferris Wheel Yarn
- Caron Colorama Halo Cake Ombre Yarn
- Lion Brand Yarn Landscapes Yarn
- Red heart Unforgettable Yarn
