YARDAGE: About 140 yards

HOOK: 5 mm or the hook  

GAUGE: 2” square = 7 rows x 8 ST (pattern stitches)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Approximately 11 in. long × 5 in. wide when laid flat. It fits a standard wine bottle.

• CONSTRUCTION: The wine bag is crocheted in the round. After you crochet the base, continue in a spiral. Place a stitch marker in the first ST of each round and move it up as you go to keep track. The number at the end of each round is the stitch count for that round.
• YARN: The color shown is discontinued, but there are so many Christmas variegated yarns available. Use any #4 medium-weight yarn – variegated, color blocks, stripes.

Step 1 – Crochet the Base

Make a magic circle and CH 1.

Rnd 1: Work 8 HDC into the circle. Join with a SL ST into the 1st HDC, then CH 1. (8 HDC)

Pull the tail tight to close the magic circle. Tie a couple of knots to secure it, then weave in the end.

Rnd 2: Work 2 HDC in each ST around. Join with a SL ST into the 1st HDC, then CH 1. (16 HDC)

Rnd 3: *2 HDC in the next ST, HDC in the next ST, rep from * around. Join with a SL ST into the 1st HDC, then CH 1. (24 HDC)

Rnd 4: *2 HDC in the next ST, HDC in each of the next 2 STS, rep from * around. (32 HDC)

Do not join. Work in continuous rounds from here.

Rnd 5: SC BLO in each ST around. Do not join. (32 SC)

Step 2 – Crochet the Body

Place a stitch marker in the first ST of Rnd 6 and move it up each round to keep track.

Rnd 6: *(SC, DC) in the next ST, skip the next ST, rep from * around. (16 groups)

Rnds 7-30: Rep Rnd 6. (16 groups)

Rnds 31-37: SC in each ST around. (33 SC)

Rnd 38: SC in each ST around, adding 3 SC evenly spaced around. Do not join. (36 SC)

Rnd 39: *skip the next 2 STS, 5 DC in the next ST, skip the next 2 STS, SC in the next ST, rep from * around. Join with a SL ST into the 1st SC. Fasten off. (6 shells)

Step 3 – Finish The Cozy

Make the tie: CH 120. Tie a couple of knots at each end to secure it, then cut the yarn.

Thread the tie: Use the crochet hook to weave the tie in and out of Rnd 30 all the way around. Tie the ends in a bow.

Finish: Weave in all ends and attach a tag. Your cozy is done!
