Pattern Description and Tips

The Mystic Blanket pattern is beginner-friendly and designed for one main size—a cozy lap afghan—, but I’ve included detailed instructions so you can easily customize it to any size you want.

You can use any #4 worsted-weight yarn, but other yarn weights will work too—just be sure to adjust your starting chains and row count to reach the desired size.

For the best visual effect, I recommend pairing a variegated yarn with a matching solid color. Don’t be afraid to choose vibrant, contrasting colors—they make the design pop beautifully!

For my blanket, I used I Love This Yarn in the colors Instant Classic and Linen.

Easy crochet throw pattern works beautifully with any variegated yarn paired with a coordinating solid.

Throughout the pattern, you’ll alternate the main and contrast yarns every two rows, but there’s no need to cut the yarn. Just carry the non-working yarn up the side as you go—no ends to weave in (my favorite part!).

The pattern also features two easy, reversible stitches that you alternate every 14 rows. This simple switch creates a gorgeous texture and visual effect, keeping the pattern fun and interesting.

For my Mystic Blanket, I used a slightly larger hook than the one recommended for the yarn. This helps keep the fabric soft and drapey! I also finished it off with a simple edging to give it a clean, polished look.

  4. I m having issues with row 4-6. Do I repeat row 2 on row 4, but I can’t repeat row 2 again for row 5. I can’t get the stitch count right if I don’t end with row 3 before the blpo section starts. I have frogged twice and can’t get this to work out.

    1. Hi Sophia, the easy way to do this is crochet rows 2-14 alternating rows 2 and 3 and changing color every 2 rows. Hope this helps!

      1. Thank you, I am trying again. That was what I did, but I still ended up off on stitch count so I’m going slow and counting each row to make sure this time. if I run into any problems I’ll be back for more help. I’ve been excited to make this since you released it because it goes perfectly with the quilt I have in my guest room.
