Step 1- Crochet the brim
With a 6 mm hook, chain (7, 8,8).
Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from the hook and in each CH across, turn. (6, 7, 7) SC
Row 2: CH1, SC in same ST, SC BLO in each ST across until 1 ST remaining, SC in the last ST, turn. (6) (6, 7, 7) SC
Rows 3 – Row (45, 51, 57): Rep row 2. At the end of the last row, turn. Do not fasten off.
Note: The brim should measure (14”, 17”,19”) long unstretched. If your measurement is very different, adjust your hook size or add/remove rows in multiples of six until you reach the desired width. Try it on if possible — the brim should fit snug and comfortably around the head.
Join the brim: Fold it in half and align the two ends. SL ST through both layers — the first stitch (BLO) on one side and the first foundation chain on the other. Continue slip stitching through each BLO stitch and the corresponding foundation chain all the way across. Switch to an 8 mm hook, then begin crocheting the hat body.
Step 2- Crochet the Body

Rnd 1: With an 8 mm hook. CH1, SC in each row of the brim (visible holes). (45, 51, 57) ST. Do not join; crochet continuously next round.
Rnd 2: SC in next ST,*skip next 2 ST, 5 DC in next ST, skip next 2 ST, SC in next ST*, rep *to* around, ending with 5 DC in the beginning SC. (8, 9, 10) 5 DC groups—Crochet continuously in the next round.
Rnd 3: *Skip next 2 ST, SC in next ST, skip next 2 ST, 5 DC in next ST*, rep *to* around, crochet continuously next round. (8, 9, 10) 5 DC groups.
Rnd 4 – Rnd (6, 7, 7) or to the desired height: Rep Rnd 3 continuously. (8, 9, 10) 5 DC groups. Finish the last round with an SC.
Step 3 – Close the hat
For all sizes: Crochet the decrease rows in spiral, making * HDC DEC over the next 2 STS* around until the top opening is nearly closed, leaving (8, 10, 12) STS remaining.
Fasten off, leaving a 6”–8” tail to weave the top of the hat closed. Weave in any remaining loose ends. Finish by attaching a pom-pom and a tag.
