The Blossom Cup Cozy pattern calls for #4 worsted-weight yarn, and I have made this sleeve in so many different yarns and colors over the years!

For the featured photo, I used Blossom Cakes in a lovely pinkish hue as a Mother’s Day gift — and my mom absolutely loved it. I also made one in “I Love This Yarn” in the color Royal Gorge for a Christmas gift (you can see it pictured above), and I’m really happy with how that one turned out too.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS: 4” wide and 4 ½” tall when laid flat; fits a 16-oz cup.

CROCHET HOOK: 4.5 mm

GAUGE:  2” square = 5 rows x 8 ST (pattern stitch)

PATTERN NOTES

• TERMINOLOGY: Written in US terms.
• DIFFICULTY: Easy
• The cup cozy is crocheted from the bottom up in continuous rounds. Do not join or turn.
• This pattern is designed to fit a 16 oz cup. To use a different yarn weight or fit another cup size, make a foundation chain in a multiple of 6 + 3 that fits snugly around the bottom of your cup, then continue crocheting until the cozy reaches your desired height.
• For the best fit, especially if your cup is narrower at the bottom and wider at the top, try the cozy on as you work. If it becomes too tight, switch to a larger hook for the remaining rounds. The finished cozy should gently hug the cup from top to bottom.
• The number at the end of each round is the total stitch count for that round.

Crochet the cup cozy

CH 33. Join with a SL ST in the first CH to form a ring, do not twist the foundation chain.

Rnd 1: SC in the same CH as the joining SL ST and in each remaining CH around. Do not join. Continue working in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the first ST of each round and move it up as you work. (33 SC)

Rnd 2: Skip the joining SL ST. *SC in the next ST, skip the next 2 STS, 5 DC in the next ST, skip the next 2 STS; repeat from * around, ending with 5 DC in the first ST. Do not join. [6 groups of 5 DC]

Rnd 3: *Skip the next 2 STS, SC in the next ST, skip the next 2 STS, 5 DC in the next SC; repeat from * around. [6 groups of 5 DC]

Rnds 4–6: Repeat Rnd 3.

Note: Try the cozy on your cup as you work. If it becomes too tight, especially near the wider top of the cup, switch to a larger hook for the remaining rounds.

Rnds 7–13, or to the desired height: Repeat Rnd 3, ending the last round with: skip the next 2 STS, SC in the next ST. (36 STS)

Rnds 14–15: SC BLO in each ST around. At the end of Rnd 15, join with a SL ST to the first SC and fasten off. (36 SC)

Weave in all ends and attach a tag, if desired. Your cup cozy is complete!
